about ME
i create CEREMONIES that tell your story
I love being a Celebrant. I love celebrating love!
To be involved with people during such exciting and momentous times in their lives is a real privilege, celebrating the joy in life, and it’s why I chose “Joy in Life” as my Celebrant business name. I am a true “people person” which is why every ceremony I have conducted has been such a success and I invest a lot of myself into creating truly personalised ceremonies. I started my working life as a nurse in Sydney and then moved onto customer service roles and some years as a public servant in Canberra. When I was living in Canberra, I realised I wanted to do more with my life than just work as a public servant, and I knew I wanted to return to more people-focussed, more caring roles, and so I became a Celebrant! I qualified as a marriage celebrant in 2011, and have conducted so many happy, wonderful ceremonies for just so many couples. My first ceremony for a same-sex couple was such an emotionally charged, beautiful ceremony, and I was filled with such joy and pride that I could help that wonderful pair finally cement their life-long partnership. So many tears of joy! A few years after becoming a celebrant, life's circumstances moved me into funeral celebrancy, and I conducted my first funeral service for a friend. It was one of the most difficult things I have ever done, but one of the most beautiful. Vale, Owen Lawrence, you are loved and missed. Since then, I have conducted many funeral services and even worked as a funeral director for 18 months, but continued as a marriage celebrant as well, bringing that joy to others (and myself!). Funeral Celebrancy has led me into qualifying as an End of Life Doula in 2020, where I provide end of life services and support to people, including full funeral celebrant services. I have since progressed to providing full Funeral Services with my funeral business called Tree of Life Funerals if you'd like to take a look : https://treeoflifefunerals.com.au Myself and my husband, along with my two small dogs, moved to Batemans Bay in 2021 and we are really enjoying living in this wonderful community. I love working with, and helping others, so I am doing what I love, and I want to share that love with you. I also believe I bring with me all the best aspects of my previous careers, from caring, compassion, and understanding, to public speaking and presentation skills, as well as the training I received from the Academy of Celebrancy while obtaining my Certificate IV in Celebrancy. Besides being a professional and a member of the Celebrants Network, as well as the Australian Marriage Celebrants, I am a warm, happy, empathetic and understanding person. For your wedding, vow renewal, commitment ceremony, I will provide a happy and relaxed ceremony created just for you. I have a pleasant and clear speaking voice and will use a PA system to ensure your ceremony is audible to all, and I can download and play your choice of music as I have a Copyright Licence. I provide a signing table and chairs for the Marriage Register, covered with a white cloth and decorated with pretty flowers and candles (or you can have whatever you choose).
